Resuming the Creative Life of a Painter

2023 marks a personal milestone for me: a return to full-time career as a painter. My work as a creative director of a small agency satisfied that old creative itch - sort of. The past twelve years working in digital marketing and video production have been a lot of fun, and during that time I continued to paint as time allowed.

Recently, however, I have felt called back to the simple joy of rolling up the sleeves, smushing around the thick buttery globs of paint at the end of a brush, and seeing what happens on a blank piece of canvas. There’s really nothing like losing oneself in the magical joy of the creative moment.

Oh yeah. The Reality THING.

Of course, there are those practical considerations. Like, keeping the lights on, putting food on the table, gas in the car, etc. Art marketing has changed a lot over this past decade, which leads to my next big announcements:

  • I have registered my art business under my corporation as an assumed name; the official business name is now Stephen Henning Fine Art.

  • I will soon be publishing a very robust website that will allow customers to see my art in a variety of sizes, in a variety of customizable settings, and order my art as a reproduction on paper or canvas, custom sized for the customer. Other products may be introduced going forward.

  • Connect with me! I recently created a dedicated Facebook account for Stephen Henning Fine Art. Please “like” and follow us on this page to hear about events, special offers, and see my newest paintings. More social media accounts will soon be added.

Professional photographer Dan Broten visits the studio to get new images for the website.
Challenged by the heavy texture and size of the canvas, Dan Broten came up with some creative ways to illuminate large paintings by Stephen Henning.

It was fun to have Dan Broten in the studio this week to take photos for the new website.

I HOPE TO KEEP MY FRIEND DAN BUSY THIS YEAR.

Lots of new original works are “in the pipeline”! I’m especially excited to have received three commissions since the first of January. I will be posting a separate blog about them, and you can follow my progress with them if you follow my Facebook page.

I’m also happy to announce I have been invited to exhibit at an area college later this year. Again, stay tuned for more details!
